Cricket is back on despite Covid-19 and we’ve been given some new OB vans to play with.

It’s a little strange with no crowd, however it’s been nice to get back to it. The ECB and broadcast compound are playing it safe with various protocols to keep everyone safe which has allowed play to resume – so far so good.

We’ve now got a Ross Carbonite vision mixer, which is so much more flexible than the Newtek Tricaster we used to use. It’s facilitated triggering of LED boards while simultaneously playing out stings for 4s, 6s, wickets – which make for a seamless & synchronised production in the stadium (shame there’s not a big crowd to enjoy it). Overall it seems a lot more stable that the Newtek Tricaster and am sure we’ll be customising as we go to improve the show.

For replays and VTs we’ve moved from the Newtek 3Play to a GrassValley Summit / Dyno – which also seems a step up. More inputs, more flexibility, more stable and a user interface that’s intuitive and will be even better once there’s a Streamdeck plugged in for quick and efficient tagging.

While it’s been enjoyable watching England take the second test in the series (and hopefully the third and the Wisden Trophy with it!), we can’t help thinking / hoping / dreaming about getting some T20 on… Fingers crossed!!
